May 9, 1928 - September 3, 2022 Avon, Indiana - Goldie A. Haggerty, nee Opal, age 94, of Avon, IN, born on May 9, 1928, in Haverhill, MA, died on Saturday, September 3, 2022, at IU Health West Hospital, Avon, IN. Goldie was always looking for the next way to help those in need. She was a faithful parishioner that loved serving her community. Above all, she was loved beyond measure. Goldie was a bank teller at Stockyards National Bank, 1st National Bank of St. Louis, and Bank of Edgemont during her banking career. After her retirement in 1988, Goldie took pride in working with the needy and spent her time working in various homeless centers in the area. "if you were in her presence, you felt loved, always", says her granddaughter Lenora. Those who had the privilege of knowing Goldie may fondly remember the way she'd swing open her porch door and holler 'Come on in and set (sit) a spell!" Goldie is survived by her children, John B. (Sandra A.) Haggerty III, and Elizabeth Elliot; her grandchildren, Lenora A. (Dylan) Rife and Sarah Haggerty of Danville IL. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 8, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Kassly Mortuary, Ltd., Fairview Heights, IN. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 9, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at Kassly Mortuary, Ltd., Fairview Heights, IL. Interment will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Belleville, IL.
